If you haven't heard, Kidde is having a massive recall of their fire extinguishers that have plastic handles (back to 1973). If you have any in your
coach, it. May be a good idea to check the model number against the recall list. More info is available on their website, Kidde.com.

Does anyone know the end of service time frame for the pressurized metal
Fire Extinguisher bottle itself ?
I'm pretty sure a 1973 bottle does NOT comply with NFPA requirements
In Ontario Canada, when a required fire extinquisher gets its manadatory
annual inspection, the "tech" is supposed to confirm by the stamped date
on the bottle that the fire extinguisher is still allowed to be in
service.

Ken B.,

Do you know if the ones you so kindly acquired for a lot of us are included?

I just filled out the recall forms on-line and they are shipping replacements. I have 3 affected units, 2 from the house and one in the GMC.

It appears to be any Kidde units with plastic handles and or plastic push buttons. I have 2 larger ones at home with metal handles that were not
affected. Their website has PDF's to help you figure it out. Then you enter your name, model and serial number. It appears to look this info up and
tells you whether your unit is affected and tells you they are shipping a replacement. At least that is how they are handling it in Canada.

These would be domestic type extinguishers, not the type that would pass inspection in a commercial environment. I had my office units inspected
today. One was due for its 5 yr inspection, so he gave me a loaner.

My Staff says I never listen to them, or something like that

This is the first I have heard of this. I think all of the ones that we got had plastic handles. I'll try to research for some more info.

As far as I can tell we are NOT included. Our model is 2 EN3 F. The recall also says it is for ABC and BC fire extinguishers. We are AB.

That is too bad because they would have had to open up the AFFF foam line again to make replacements and maybe we could have gotten some more.

Another thing I did not realize until a year or so ago is these are charged with an ethylene glycol AFFF mix which drops the freezing point to -10C (+
14 F). I just read it on the label again. That makes it much better than I originally thought. I know you head south to Florida, Cuba, Puerto Rico,
or someplace long before it ever gets that cold and do not much care about the freezing point.

It is amazing what you learn when you read the directions.

I wish we could still get these. One of the locals here scored two of them off of ebay a while back.
