I got this Emerald 1 4,000 watt for $150 on facebook.

The existing wiring was in a tangled heap and useless. I put power to it but neither start button did anything. I hot wired the coil and the fuel pump
and it fired right up and ran smooth.

Now to test the generator- black wire coming off a bus to a breaker. No other AC wires. THere is another bus with six poles but no wires. I checked
for voltage there and got nothing.

I have now reached my level of incompetence.

Does something need to happen with the control board to make the generator produce power?

thanks

Dave. Flight systems has some good troubleshooting. You tube too.

You probably have 3 things. 1. Control board. That starts and stops generator.

The VR keeps the
Voltage steady and tells the control board there is voltage. Also shoots voltage to field to create a/c.

Then there is the rotor/stator. And brushes. You can meter that stuff. The slip rings on rotor need to be clean and brushes in good shape. Slip
rings are copper and can corrode in storage.

Dave,

Onan used to be very open with their manuals, download it even if you can't understand it. At least someone will be able to and maybe help you.

Nothing wrong with the emerald line. Except I think that they were 3600 rpm. Not sure about that.

It's 1800 rpm, same horizontally opposed - design as most onans including GMC with a single ignition firing both plugs on every up stroke.

Manuals used to be easy to get but now show up for download on very suspicious looking sites.
