Finally about to start looking for that GMC of my dreams

It not about the OEM setup passing the smog check, it is the restriction of being prohibited from installing EFI that is the objection. Brain dead
bureaucracy.

Legislature, not the people running it.

As long as you have a lazy or incompetent or cooperative smog tech, no
problem!

No smog tech can LEGALLY pass a post 1975 vehicle in California that has had the carburetor replaced with EFI, no matter how much the EFI lowers
emissions and/or improves fuel economy (thus lowering the amount of smog the vehicle generates). People with later models have to remove the EFI and
install the carb for the test every two years.

The people making the decisions are too stupid to allow sensible alternatives to OEM. It makes inspections simpler at the cost of the environment that
the law was intended to protect.

The test should have standards for the OEM configuration, and as long as the modified system meets or exceeds those standards, why force people to
keep the OEM configuration?

Brain dead bureaucracy.

Well put A. Who knows? I'm just glad for the 25 year or older
exemption rule in Wa.

Ronald,
Smog tests are the least of your problems! Find a coach and move on. Otherwise, we'll still be discussing this topic into the next decade.
Sorry to be so blunt, but I have been reading posts from GMC wannabes since 2001. Many are still here and still looking for the perfect coach. Others
have bought coaches and have been enjoying them for many years.
It's not a life or death decision. It's a big automobile with a house attached. All the problems are solvable; after you acquire a coach and put it
in service.

There are other things you need to consider than a EFI.
If ever meet Gene B. you'l like him, is is not as abrupt as he say on here.
We tend to get little loose with words at our older age

I'm just waiting on the money, the cash will appear in my etrade account in
December (retention bonus from work), and then I'll buy.

Short answer, no one has certified a FI for the GMC motorhomes yet (even
though there is one that is legal for cars).

I'd thought that cert didn't cover GMC motorhomes? If it does, good enough.

Ron, the people at CARB (California Air Resource Board) if they could ,
have even addressed lawn mowers and generators.
