Hi folks.

While I'm still planning to run my engine at the GM recommended 190/195
degrees I thought I'd try and take a little poll as to how many are running
their engine at other than GM temps.

Temp (thermostat is rared at) and how many miles since change from 195.

TIA - Heinz

I am just now putting a 180 degree thermostat in mine. Remember that the
195 degree thermo was only used for emmissions control purposes as was the
exhaust gas recirculation thru the intake manifold.

Heinz;

I had a high flow 180=B0 Robert Shaw thermo put in at 77K. Have 93K on now
with no problems. Even the dash heater still puts out heat (along with
drafts).

Likewise, its the only solution I have found to a bad vaporlocking
problem. dispite fans, change of carb, change of fuelpump and fuel lines
metal &/or rubber, and cool air ducting for carb...

I,m aware of the 195f requirement, but 195 and vaporlock is certain..
I,m open to suggestions. but until I find one that works, 165 is it...
perhaps the new engine vents being installed will help. ;)

It sure would be nice to lay this one to rest someday :-)

Talked to Leigh Harrison the other day and he still suggests 195 as per GM
folks he's talking to.

I did put the restrictor in today, but the smaller one, which I assume is
195. I'll see what it does next trip.

They were all aluminum colored.... and no instructions whatsoever.
2 were same size and the third had a larger opening.
I would thing the larger would make for increased waterflow, hence cooler
temp?

Couldn't find anything in their catalog or Tech manual either.

I run all my engines at 160. Its the first thing I do when I get a vehicle
is drop the engine temp.

>and how many miles since change from 195.

I have put 45,000+ miles on the 455 running it at 160 degrees.
