Nate,
Happy that the trip to Fargo was relatively uneventful. On my coach for the
past year and 10,000 miles I average 8.6 MPG.
Your Onan problem sounds just like mine. My Onan was hard to start. I ended up
having to shoot starting fluid into it to get it to start sometimes. Once
started it would run for maybe 2-3 minutes and then start to die. It would
catch itself and run another 2-3 minutes. It turned out the problem was a bad
fuel pump. I did all the other stuff about cleaning the filter and making sure
the ignition was OK and it was. Nothing helped. I finally disconnected the
fuel line to the carb and tried to start to see if the pump would pump. It
would not. An earlier clue, which I ignored, that I had a bad pump was when I
couldn't hear it click anymore when I tried to prime it with the primer button I
installed.
You can get the fuel pump from Onan and expect to pay about $125. Or I guess
you can get it from other sources for less. I was in a hurry and didn't want to
spend time trying to get the pump from another cheaper source so I got it from
Onan.
I installed the electronic ignition yesterday and am pleased with it.
