Curious....is putting fans in for venting heat off the coils worth the effort? Share your thoughts and experiences....

Do you already have the correct baffle chimney installed? If not, do that first. Then if you still need help, some exhaust fans out the top vent
would be next. I just have the baffles.

I was having a tough time keeping the fridge cold on hot days until I installed the baffle and the fans on top of the coils. Problem solved. I also
added the circulating fans inside the fridge. Both sets of fans were from rvcoolingunit.com.

I installed the fridge baffles/chimney as close as possible to the Norcold instructions within the limits of the structure of the GMC. Some of the
angles are not optimal due to the curved sides etc, but it seems to work well. I also installed a pair of 12v computer fans in the roof vent and
powered them with a small solar panel. That way it doesn't draw any battery power and it works when needed in bright sunlight during the hottest part
of the day. This set-up seems to work well even on the hottest Summer days.

I also use a battery powered circulating fan inside the fridge, which definitely helps on the really hot days. The combination allows me to freeze
water bottles for hiking, and make ice for drinks etc. along with keeping the food frozen.

Make the Baffle at the bottom to direct the intake air go toward refer,
then travel up by the refer then up through the top vent.

Also park the coach so the sun beats on the opposite side or put the awning
out.

I installed the APC Defend unit this spring https://www.arprv.com/products.php , it has fans for cooling the boiler and fans for inside refrig. It
also has the added fire safety benefit of monitoring boiler temp. and will shut down boiler if it overheats ( as in operating when not level ) then
restarts when temp cools down. This feature alone is worth the cost as it could save your refrig. and/or your GMC from burning to the ground
just ask Bob Donahue.
It works great, and great customer service too.
I was going to put a fire suppression system in but figured this option was much better - shuts things down BEFORE a fire starts.
just what I did

You can mount it just about anywhere you want as long as the wires reach,I mounted mine right in the frig. compartment. easy to install took about 1.5
hrs, they have several install videos on there website for various makes and models of refrig. I have a 78 royale with a Norcold.

This is an interesting discussion. A few years ago I went through and repaired/replaced rotted wood and fixed the foam that had deteriorated to
restore the entire area behind the fridge back to how it was from the factory. We are still using the OEM factory installed fridge and it works
pretty well, but it sounds like the fans might add a touch of new technology to make it even better. Anybody have a chance to post pics of their
system it would be interesting to see.
