Fan Clutch Replacement

Replaced my fan clutch, which was staying engaged at all times, with a 2797 "Severe Duty" as recommended in the Interchange. Replacement was super simple following this procedure in place of the one in the shop manual.

I had to replace my original fan cluctch not long after I got the GMC because it was making dying noises. As you can see the fluid had been leaking out. The replacement 2796 is actually a slightly smaller diameter than the original. I know some people hate how frequently the 2797 engages, but I find it reassuring.

Just got back from an ~500 mile trip. The new fan clutch worked great and hardly engaged. It didn’t seem all that aggressive to me, although my point of reference is the previous clutch that was engaged 100% of the time. I got the rig in that condition from the PO.
