Gene,
For your website if you like.
A recent fan belt shopping trip turned up this information about
Goodyear belts. All of these are 11mm belts (7/16=11.11250mm). Goodyear uses
a 5 digit part numbering: the first two of which represent the width (15XXX
for 7/16"); the last three for the length in inches to the first decimal.
Therefore the 455's power steering belt crossed by NAPA 7450 is 15456
(7/16"x45.6"). They are grooved belts, but the groves are diagonally formed
rather than transversely, and are not as deep as typical notched v-belts.
AIR COND - 15621 (11AV1560)
P/S, H2O Pump - 15456 (11AV1145)
ALTERNATOR - 15574 (11AV1450)
For whatever reason, the part subnumber (in parens) which appears to be belt
size in millimeters, doesn't convert mathematically. Oh, well. By this time
I was maxed out. Get your calculator out and pick which way from GM spec
inch-lengths you want to go.
Their GY book also crosses GY belts by length in half inches if you want
longer/shorter. I got more help from a little parts shop in town than from
Goodyear, NAPA, Champion, Checkers, CarQuest or Red Rooster.
Someone recently posted preference for a guy with a book over one with a
computer. I agree.
Great site, Gene. Thanks for the effort you make to extend to us a super
service.

P.S. On your website, for the 455 water pump, "GM (3/8"x42")" belt should
read, "9433640". Also, for info, the Gates 7612 crosses to a GM 9433674.
Dayco numbers for the 455 are: A/C - 15620;ALT - 15570; P/S - 15450.
