Fair Warning - Price's coach in Family RVing....

A wiper customer, who's building the chassis, had to contact me for wiring
help. I'm not at liberty to say who...

This whole episode is too bad. I met the Prices at the Bean Station rally several years ago. We sat together eating. They were telling me about
their dream. When they told me that they had bought a Eleganza and were having it upgraded to 'Prevost quality' on a GMC platform, I suspected they
were in trouble. When they told me they had sent it to Cinnabar for a total mechanical restoration, I KNEW it would not end well. I guess I don't
have the poker face I thought I did because Bob asked me 'what?'. I responded that I was underwhelmed by what I knew of Cinnabar. I went on to tell
him that I was sure they could do good work if they were permitted to do what needed to be done. Bob responded that it was a 'make it right'
engagement.

The next January, the coach was at the Dixielanders winter rally at LazyDays in Tampa. At that time Bob told me he was unhappy with the work Cinnabar
had done.

Alex Ferrara told me he had looked at the steering and determined it was off. Alex told me that they were planning on bringing the coach to the Man
Cave but never showed up.

As to the price of 500K I believe that is BS. I recall the Princes saying it was around 200K at Dothan. I don't even know HOW you could spend 500K
in a 26' package.

The whole thing is a perfect example of people with more money than brains.

As to the handling issue. In addition to the steering being out, I believe the front bogie arm being badly overloaded on the passenger side was a
major contributor. We've all experienced rut wander from the leading bogie arm following where it wants to go. Put the 700 lb weight (I just
replaced ours in the SOB) of a 24" washer and dryer right on top of the passenger side rear bogies and you've got a imbalance of biblical proportions.
I'd love to know what the axle weights were.

Sad.

Part of the question is when does a GMC motorohome quit being a GMC motorhome?

I’m confident that people who put the body on a Workhorse chassis or on some other chassis recognize that it’s so far from a GMC that the original builder is not to blame.

I’m hoping your 6 wheel people are the same, Ken.

Kerry,

I am not certain at this point where I saw this coach, but the primary builder was there and he allowed that his shop had put 2000 Man Hours into the
body work. This could very well be 200K$us alone. The rest of it, could easily roll up that much again.

I was also very impressed (Please note the I did not assign a direction there). My basic instinct (as a naval architect) that it was wrong. Just the
awing housings make it look like a problem, but with the weights of all the included features, it might have been saved. But I doubted that anybody
had done a weight, balance and roll-center on this.

We are very serious museum people, museums should contain items that are either very typical of the class, those that show specific developments or
accomplishments or those of some historic note. This belongs on the big mistakes column in my opinion.

During the day today I am going to send to the editor and tell him he got the title wrong.

I doubt they will have any of the problems that the Prices had, as it's on a chassis suitable for such a thing (and they know what they are doing)

With the “knowing what they are doing” part being most important.

Ha! Probably true,
It could also be said that in order to do the work the prices had done, the crew had some serious skills. They just didn't understand the chassis they
were putting it on.
I get the feeling they built a Prevost on a GMC chassis which is not going to work (as we have seen here!)

Did anyone ever have a final weight on that thing?

I saw that coach and it was clearly an attempt to copy a million dollar Prevost.

Some of these 'Coach builders' have the necessary skills, some have some of the necessary skills. The people who redid my coach were excellent carpenters but sucked at everything else. Specifically plumbing, gas and water. the gas lines all had teflon tape on the flare fittings and every one leaked INSIDE THE COACH, the water lines were plastic but were missing the 10 cent ferrel that keeps them from leaking.

Didn't cost much $$ to fix, but took a lot of effort because they buried all the fittings behind glued and screwed panels.
Why would you ever want to fix anything, like a gas fitting?
