Gary:

I'd be leery of the supposed "chrome plated". I'm told that during the
manufacturing process, Doug Thorley puts a cheap flash coating (resembles a
dull chrome plating), which quickly discolors in use and then starts
rusting.

If you're interested, contact HPC (High Performance Coating), 800-456-4721
and ask for Cory Ure, or e-mail: hpsales or
http://www.hpcoatings.com. They buy direct from Thorley, and quicker than
you and I can.

The price you were quoted sounds close to what I paid HPC to have them
obtain the headers plus have coated (metallic-ceramic). When they buy
direct, they order without the flash coating, which costs extra to clean off
otherwise.

Subject: GMC: exhausting

I called Cinnabar this morning to see about replacing my broken drivers
side exhaust manifold (pn# 407103). The support person said they are on back

order waiting for them to be built. He didn't know when they might be
getting them. The cost is $147 which isn't too bad. I then called Doug
Thorley Headers, and got the part number (355Y) but they don't sell retail.
They gave me the closest distribution warehouse. I called them, and they
don't sell retail either, but gave me the closest retail dealer to me. I
called them. He said it would be a special order item. Might get it on 1 - 3

weeks. Cost would be $450 (complete kit and chrome plated). So, I'm inclined

to go with the real manifold and wait it out. But, the GMC is down and I
need it by the 23rd of Sept. Does anyone have a spare 407103 lying around
that I could buy or borrow? I'll replace it with a new one.

Gary;

I have a set of 355Y headers if you would like to buy them. They have about
2,000 miles on them. I replced them with some coated ones when the engine was
rebuilt.

Gary,

When I needed one it took quite a few phone calls to find the right source.
Once I found the right guy he knew just what I needed. Most yards want to
deal just in late models so you need to find someone who does the golden
oldies. Call around and you'll eventually find someone who knows somebody
who has what you need. Once I found one I then paid about 40 dollars each
to get them milled flat.

If you get lucky you can save a few bucks.
