Thomas,
A fair question.
1. I don't want to sound like a "know-it-all" windbag impressing himself
by seeing how many pages of Email he can generate.
2. I don't know about anyone else, but I usually log on about midnight
and sometimes don't get to bed before 2 AM as it is. I simply can't
take time to elaborate on some subjects in the time I have. I work from
8AM to usually 7PM Monday through Friday, I think thats time away from
the most important thing in my life- my family!
3. My parts data base is at the shop, I make a point not to bring work
home with me except for answering Email. Many times I need my info to
answer questions. It's easy when you call to give out the needed info.
4. This mail list was not designed as a platform for retailers to
advertise. I want to be sure I keep my involvement here an information
service. Many times it is a fine line and I want to keep on the right
side of the fence.
5. I enjoy talking GMC at my shop. I have a cordless phone with a
headset and work while I talk. I've been acused of looking like Michael
Jackson on stage with the headset but, hey, it works. My toll free
number costs me a small chunk each month but I think people appreciate
the fact that they can call me for input and advice, I may even sell
something if I'm not carefull!
6. I think a good post gets to the point quickly and lets people
determine wether they want to add the the thread. If they are
interested in the topics there is nothing stopping them from replying to
my post as opposed to calling me. Sometimes though, I get frustrated by
having to wait 24 hours to get a reply to a question. The mail list is
a great thing and I do not want to take anything from its usefullness,
but I really feel a one on one conversation can't be beat if you want to
get into specifics. Long involved post make me want to reach for the
trash button, kind of like this post!!
Thanks, Thomas, for the opertunity to junp up on the soap box and vent
some spurious emissions!
