There is an important issue here that this club (whomever they are) are
trying to resolve. The GMC clubs were organized to provide an opportunity
for folks with like interests to meet. Clubs who have not req'd GMC
ownership have changed over the years to where GMC owners were in the
minority and the majority consisted of every brand of SOB or in some
cases no RV at all. So what happens to a club like this? They become a
social club where dining & drinking are the reason to get together.
Many of the clubs that were organized in the 70's have ceased to exist
for this very reason. Last year the GMC Yankee Clippers had to remove GMC
from their name since there were only two GMC owners in the club who left
to join another GMC club. In 1994 the GMC Sunshine Statesmen made some
gut wrenching changes to our By-Laws that effectively state that the
member MUST own a TZE GMC Motorhome. If they owned an SOB prior to Jun
1994 they are grandfathered otherwise their membership was not renewed.
It wasn't an easy decision but if the club were to survive it was
necessary. We also made a provision for a class of membership; Associate
member, who is a former member who no longer owns a GMC AND does not buy
another brand of RV. Spouses of deceased members can remain as members.
We don't have any fractional ownerships (After all we are talking GMCs
not LearJets) and there are no exceptions.
Is this Exclusion? Definately, but this was the way the majority of our
members wanted it and that is why they belong to our club. On the other
hand we warmly invite EVERY GMC owner to rally with us regardless of
their financial status, club affiliated (Including FMCA) or not, race,
creed, or if they are Canadians! Our club is strong, in good solid
financial condition and we grow at the rate of 10 or so new member
families every year. We have been in existence since February 1977 and
expect to be around as long as there is an interest in GMC motorhomes.
I don't submit the above to initiate a debate but only to provide for a
view from the other side. Please don't try to argue your point with me as
having gone thru the debate in 1994, I am truly not interested.
