One of the Marion GMCMI rally high points occurred during the
presentation given by the lady that was on the original GMC design
team. Dallas Jensen asked her why in the world did they put those long
bolts that extend through the wheelhouse covers on the front seat
mounts.
She related that the front seat mountings failed on the first crash
test. On the second test, someone had installed long bolts in the seat
mounts. The mounts passed the second crash test. It was too expensive
to do additional testing just to validate a shorter bolt. Ergo, all
production GMC's had the long bolts that protrude into the wheel
wells.
