Engine water pump install questions

I'm getting ready to install a new water pump, and I'm looking for some advise.

1... the book states to coat the bolts in motor oil. Would there be anything better to use? Maybe anti seize, synthetic grease, synthetic oil?

2... is the bypass hose from the water pump to the thermostat housing just standard heater hose?

3... the book states to use liquid gasket sealer to adhere the gasket to the water pump. I usually use aviation gasket Sealer. Is that too extreme? Or
should I use something different?

4... should I use gasket sealer on both sides of the water pump gasket? I would think not..

Thanks for the help, Scott.

1. Motor oil is fine all they want is lubrication of the thread while tightening / torquing the bolt. I have never done it. I hate people that read
the book before doing things.
2. Yes. At least that is all I have ever used.
3. Aviation Permatex is fine. Keep in mind that whatever you use you are going to have to scrape it off again if you ever remove the pump. I usually
use a very light coating of silicon just to stick the gasket to the pump and nothing on the engine side.
4. I also have used silicon on the pump and anti-seize on the engine side. It makes it real easy to remove the pump later with the gasket still
attached to it.

It is best to drain the coolant from the engine rather then just the radiator when changing the water pump. If the chain case cover separates from the
block with coolant in it you will wind up with some coolant in the front sump of the pan.

4. It helps to keep the gasket in place when installing, it's hard to get
it all lined up and keep the gasket in place. I just put a thin coat on the
pump side.
