Engine Removal From Bottom

Actually it's best to leave as much "stuff" off the engine until you have it in place and mounted. THEN install the accessories. There's plenty of room once the front tires and fenderwells have been removed. There is also lots of room between the front of the engine and the AC condenser. The radiator should be out to be flushed, or replaced anyway.
 
I heard that if you take off the harmonic balancer, it makes it a little easier to get the engine in from below

FWIW, I installed with no manifolds. Not sure about whether vibration dampener was on or not. Leaving it off would help a bit. It's big, and heavy. No way to get around that.

I lifted it in from below, facing transverse. Then rotated it longitudinal once past the crossmember.

My engine was assembled, including the harmonic balancer, b/c before stuffing it in the engine bay, I wanted to see:

A: Good oil pressure
B: Good cranking pressure.

Next time (if there is a next time) I would also put the engine on a run-in stand and run the engine.

I would not pull the harmonic balancer after that just to install the engine. There was plenty of room for the harmonic balancer when facing side to side and the engine can be rotated easily when it's hanging by a cable from the center of the engine.

Finishing up some 2 handed jobs and one of them was the engine removal. I completed the exercise yesterday. I didn't find any short cuts. I did have a helper. My friend and big time helper Ever cam back from North Carolina to help. He was priceless for any overhead work.

I am forever grateful. Jared Kohl, you probably remember Ever, you meet him at Eric and Joanna Tanner's All GMC Car Show. The last time we did this we didn't have a lift. Everything went extremely well.

Tom I'm going to have a lot more schedule flexibility in a few days, after that I'd like to help you get it back into place once you get the engine back from the machine shop.

That would be great. Remember we have indoor camping with full hook ups to include dump. Also we have a full bath. Meals would be on me.
