I can't believe that there isn't some good person out there who knows
the horsepower and torque specs on GMC's 403 engine.

Last week I sent this message to the mailing list with no reply so far.

Does anyone have the horsepower and torque specs for the 403 engine? I
have specs for the 455 engine at 212 HP # 3400 RPM with max torque of
344 lbs ft # 2400 RPM. Going to look over a 77 Royale this weekend.

Good Day

The 403 has 200hp at 3600 RPM with torque of 330 at 2400 RPM.
Compression for the 403 is 7.9 , Bore 4.351, and stroke 3.385.
My best mileage ever was "puttering" , if that's a word, around
Prince Edward Island this summer at speeds of 40 to 55mph on reg fuel
and liters converted to Imperial gallons, I'm Canadian eh!,
12.6 mpg.
Generally, I tow a VW Bug , with my 403, and average about 10.5 to 11
mpg (Imperial nor American).

Thanks Mike. I wanted this info to do some calculations on the
different final drive ratios (3.07, 3.46, 3.50, 3.66) available. I've
been told that the 403 engine is a little weak, especially hill
climbing, but if you tow a Bug around, it can't be tto bad.
Thanks for the help.

I am not sure if the mpg was calculated on imerial or US gallons?? The
conversion factor is: 1 imperial gallon = 1.202 US gallons.
