As a former "Plastic" salesman, check the melting and combustion
points of Lexan and the toxicity of the flame.

The idea is good, just make a couple of phone calls before you
start the work. Lexan is as tough as the hinges of hell, but
scratches easily.
Be careful not to place the window where you will be walking on it
or frequently placing things.

Just a thought.....and of course let us know how it turns out...so I
can copy the idea

I lost an SOB due to the QuadraJet needle sticking & the electric fuel
pump puking gas all over the engine. It was all I could do to get out the
door with it going up in flames. I was in a parking lot! Best thing that
ever happened to me, as I now have a REAL coach. Understandably, I am very
paranoid about the QJ on the GMC. I can't afford & don't want the
alternatives, so will put some type of fire suppression system on it, if
only a hole in the rear of the cockpit step for nozzle. I am going to put a
piece of Lexan about 10" X 10" in the engine cover so I know when it is
burning. Will probably bond 2 pieces to form Thermopane. Just my
preliminary thoughts.

Hmm, why not a sight glass from a boiler. Should be able to pick one up
from any boiler service business.
