Hi: I went to the Las Vegas Rally and met several people who do engine
rebuilding. They seemed knowledgable and helpful. I do have a
problem. The Tornado 455 in the 78 Eleganza II just failed for the
third time. It had about 700 miles on it, we were on our way to Las
Vegas, got as far as Gaviota State Beach, about 25 miles from Lomoc.
The second engine failed with 300 miles on it out of Beaver from Salt
Lake City. All engines were build by The Motor Works out of Spokane. I
did not know about GMC engine rebuilders at the time. I even asked a
great deal of questions over the internet. Any wasy my current delima
is the Motorworks wants the motor up in Spokane. To do it right I
should imagine I should ship the entire GMC to them on a flat bed. Does
any body know a truck going empty North that would like to take a GMC to
Spokane. My other alternative is to throw the motor away so to speak
and have another one buil here at home. Need some communication support
and feed back. Thanks Chuck.

can not believe that an engine failed 3 times in such a short time. Being
an engineer.you have my interest. Could you tell me exactly how it failed?
bet a push rod went!!!!!!

Chuck,

Sorry to hear this... have you considered Mondello. If you're GMC is still
in Gaviota, Mondello is only about an hour north on 101 in Paso Robles. I
stopped by his shop a couple of weeks ago and was impressed, they showed me
how they "beef up" (I'm not mechanical)the 455... and I'm sure they'll have
a solution. Here's their phone #: 805.237.8814 WAY-NO-SWEAR-TAY
