I have an extension cord with a light inside the GMC. It keeps the condensation out in the cold weather.
The light bulb is in a large coffee can. That gets warm and helps with the heat.
I have had no rodents in there for ages.

The only squirrels we have here in the desert are ground squirrels of various species, so I don't know if light is an effective deterrent for tree
squirrels, but it is certainly effective against rats.

Reportedly effective against packrats in the desert. When I gave my travel trailer to my son north of Albuquerque I also included two strings of solar charged LED light strings. He may have bought another pair of strings by now. Supposedly those rodents are nocturnal and lights under the RV would make it easy for predators such as coyotes to see their "supper."

rats. I had packrats in two dark places at home. Trapped and moved them
15 miles away and cleaned out their stinky mess. New ones moved in.

New furry tenants moved in.
Hung a string of LED Xmas lights from the ceilings...Voila! Eviction
notice worked. No more big critters. Still have mice, though, darn it.
Don't know if it will work with squirrels in the engine compartment of
the coach. Squirrel may have just been using that space as storage, as I
saw no evidence of nest. I cleaned out the fir cones with the leaf
blower, and I'll keep an eye on it. Oops, I forgot to check the air horn
and inside the filter housing. Note to self: DO THAT TOMORROW

Yeah, I've been using light ropes around my coach for years, and Rid-a-Rats (a strobe device) under the hoods of all my vehicles. Those things have
completely eliminated any pack rat problems.
