Engine Compartment Light

yep and that little switch under the right eyebrow door is a battery
killer. Most have disabled that switch because it was hard to keep
adjusted and would run down the battery.

Yes, it was a factory item but was ordered as an option. My glove
box sticker lists it as an ordered option. Amazing how many GMCers
have one of these but don't know that it comes out and can be brought
all around the motorhome as a trouble light. Great if you have to
change a flat at night.

Knowing that some owners don't know that the light comes out, when at
the Albuquerque rally I was under the hood of several GMCs testing
radiator caps and putting in R-12 and I asked owners if they knew
that the light came out and found a few that had no idea that it did.

This was a popular GM option for many years. Have an original, optioned
one on my '63 Grand Prix, & on GMC. Both still work, too.

Yes, it is OEM and I was going to ask how many know about the trouble
light but never got a "Round Tuitt"! What you may not know is that light
is powered by your house battery not your starting battery.

My 1977 originally had the light hooked up to the stud on the
firewall that leads to the engine battery. I moved the light to the
house battery by connecting it to the side of the solenoid that the
long cable from the rear battery connects to.

The GMC Maintenance Manual wiring diagram also shows it hooked to the
engine battery.
