I am kind of wondering with this one also. As long as your genset and roof air work, is the dash air important. Could free up some
horsepower. Darren

Chris,

If you take it out, don't throw away ANY of the parts in case you change
your mind or sell the coach. I think certain parts like compressor mounting
brackets could be hard to find.

I speak from limited experience, but the dash air last Summer
was a real plus on some very hot days. I tried running without
the dash air to save gas and found that the roof air wasn't enough
on those 95 degree and humid days. If I were buying a coach
today, I would maybe think twice about one that didn't have
dash air. Even if the dash air wasn't working I would want it.
I would figure that I could fix it later.

My neighbor, who's the original owner of a '73 23' Canyon Lands,
regrets that he didn't get dash air when he bought the coach. He was
trying to save money and that was something that he didn't think
he needed. He thought the roof air would be enough, but it wasn't

Just my 2 cents

Rebuilt my dash AC system last year in our 77 Eleganza II. Even on the
hottest day I can cool the coach going down the road. At resale time no
dash air is a big minus.

Chris,

It's my understanding that you can only purchase R-12 if you have a certified
A/C mechanics license. And if you can find any to buy, it's really expensive;
like $25 per pound.

>Chris,
>You have 2 options when rebuilding the dash air. You can convert to the newer
freon ?R134 or stay with the R12 freon. I chose to stay with the original R12.
>Both have advantage and disavantges. With either you need to replace the hoses
and all o-ring in the system along with the dryer. The hoses are available from
Golby or you can take your old hoses to a Good AC shop and they can replace the
rubber parts and reuse the metal ends. The dryer is available at most AC shops.
I got mine from Buskirks. The hose selection will be determined by which freon
that you decide to use. Also make sure the the rest of the system is flushed
with acetone and dryed. This gets all the dirt and junk out of the system. You
may have to replace the expansion valve if the system was really dirty. I am
sure that other netter have gone thru this experience. The cost is not cheap,
but the result can be COOL! If you have the earlier(Before 77) AC there are
several Mods that can be done to increase the capacity and allow additional
cooling. I am sure that Emery can help in the mods.
