An email received from EMERY STORA states that he is now at home and in Hospice care. Doctors said the new chemotherapy was doing more harm than good, so they are stopping medications. Right now, cards of encouragement would be appreciated by both Emery and especially Michelle. Emery feels that after the effects of the chemo lessen, he would like phone calls and visits - beginning in Sept

Such deeply saddening news. Emery is such a fine and devoted GMCer. A friend to everyone he's met. He's had a really rough time the last several years. And retired from a very accomplished professional career. He was president of GMC Western States for a while. Then president, as well as a couple other official positions, of GMCMI for a transitional period after it's founder, Ralph Luby, decided to do away with it. He actually saved GMCMI from dissolvement, IMO.

I realize that "comfort" may be hard to come by for you, these days; but I hope you can take some small measure of comfort knowing that so many people in the GMC community love and respect you for all you have done over the years in your "always there" support for the GMC community. The Karma you have built during this lifetime should do you well in the next several.

The piece I posted in the General Topics section, "A Geezer, Coot and Codger Swap an Engine" is the narrative of installing an engine in the field for Emery last October. He got the diagnosis that his cancer was back after we put in his engine, and he was a full player in the installation. My wife and I spent some time with Emery and Michelle yesterday and while he's frail, we were able to laugh a lot. He's done so much good for so many people he knows he's had a good run and is pretty reconciled with it. But I will miss his good soul when the time comes.
