Greetings all!

Major problem here in Houston.

We're in the Glacier going from Redlands to League City TX to visit family
for the holidays. Everything going beautifully until about 60 miles west
of Houston on I-10 -- BANG! -- broke the left torsion bar. Luckily was
able to move off the freeway and into the parking lot of a BBQ restaurant
at exit number 709.

Also, luckily, were able to get hold of family who came and got us.
Glacier is still sitting at BBQ restaurant.

Was able to remove both ends of broken torsion bar.

Here's the help I need:

1. Is there anybody in the greater Houston area who can advise on getting
a new torsion bar? Where can I get one (and what would I expect to pay)?

2. Is there anybody anywhere that can advise on getting the new bar?

3. Since I didn't bring the part of the service manual dealing with front
suspension, could someone please send me details on installing new torsion
bar. The old one came out very easily, and I'm hoping the new one goes
back in that easily. How high does the front have to be lifted past off
the ground to be able to insert new bar so it is at least close?

I've got what seem to be the necessary tools, and can get more if
required. The ride height adjusting bolt is turnable, and will come out
with little effort with some penetrating oil.

What else to I need to know to put this thing in and get it adjusted to
somewhere near close? I know I can't do a complete alignment in a dirt
parking lot, but I've got to get it at least in the ball park.

Any and all suggestions, directions, advice gladly accepted.

We're going to shop around for a torsion bar tomorrow (father-in-law will
assist), so any info right away would be most appreciated.

Thanks greatly to all, and even if I don't get back on the road, the best
of the holidays to all.

In League City, TX wishing the Glacier was sitting here with us.

(sorry for any typos, and incoherent rambling. I'm using PINE through
Terminal, and with all the other stuff happening today, things are a
little dicey).

Toby:

Try getting a hold of Ken Thoma in Fredericksburg (which is NW of San
Antonio)TX, 830-997-3690. He's the man who does the front hubs, bearings,
etc. He may be able to help with parts?

In Houston, try reaching Roger Christensen, 713-641-3708 or Marvin Peck (one
of the individuals who started selling the 3.46:1 ring and pinion gears),
713-643-4442, about help also.

Good luck.
