Hi Guys,
Going to be replacing the emergency brakes hopefully this weekend and any advise would be great. Everything from getting the coach in the air
safely and doing no harm to the actual install and tweaking. Im only doing the sleeved sections (long and short cables) since the rest seem to be in
good shape. The PO had recently put new brakes all around so the pads/springs should be in good order.

Thanx for all the help............. :d

Kevin,

If you have a (iirc) 9/16 (it might be 1/2) deep socket to make the things in the backplate let go, the rest is pretty straight forward.

The system is tough to get balanced so it all works.

Even when everything is new and properly adjusted, it lacks authority. The
only thing that really is foolproof, is wheel chocks.

The heavy solid rubber chocks with handle sold by Northern Tool are really good, stay put, and frequently go on sale, sometimes with free shipping. Shipping to a "local" store for pickup there is always free.

has anybody installed a hydraulic brake “lock” to use as a parking brake?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Brake-Line-Lock-Hydraulic-Brake-Park-Lock-Pressure-Holder-Disc-Or-Drums-3155/172972679598?epid=653308792&hash=item2845f9a1ae:g:LEsAAOxyOmBSLBVC
My emergency brake system is too far gone
and i’m wondering if something like this would be safe, if installed carefully with brake lines going through the firewall
into the cockpit.
Very curious to know if anybody’s using one, and if its ever caused any issues (??!!)
thanks!

Jim K has one available.

Just remember that if the system leaks just one drop anywhere, the brakes
are significantly less effective.

I agree that blocking the wheels is the best way to go to make sure the coach stays put but to get an inspection sticker in MA I need the parking
brakes to be in good order.......

You can make them as they left the factory, but they still are marginal at
best. But, government regs being what they are, Maine and many other states
are unbending on that stuff.
Be very careful to not drive the coach with the brakes applied. It
will smoke your rear brakes in short order.

If you use it frequently and do maintenance it will serve you well.
Most of you won’t do it and complain .
We know how it improve it, but again we tell them they need to use it and
maintain service.

I like the look of the Branscome (?) kit. It seems over engineered which is kind of the way I like it.

Larry,

I would expect that Al Branscome would take exception to that remark.

As an engineer that worked just a few months in foundation brake, it has always been my personal opinion that the original design was Under Engineered
even for the design life of these coaches when they were first built.

Yes, the system can be made to function with only original parts, but it requires constant attention to make this happen.
