Anyone using this sort of thing here on the net? Seems like it might
work well for GMCers and is not limited to metropolitan areas, just
anywhere there is a phone (any phone) to call an 800 number for 10 bucks
a month unlimited use.

WORLDWIDE COMPATIBILITY.
PocketMail is compatible with virtually
every phone on the planet, including
cordless and corded home phones, digital
PBX office phones, analog cellular and
public payphones.

UNLIMITED U.S. ACCESS, JUST
$9.95/MONTH. No matter how many e-mail
messages you send or receive, or how
many times you dial 1-800-POCKETM, you
pay just $9.95 a month.

9 OUNCES - TONS OF PORTABILITY. PocketMail fits in your pocket,
weighs a fraction of your computer and has no cables or modem.

(you've got to buy this little 9 ounce pocket keyboard and screen, and I
don't know the cost but I heard it's around $100 bucks)

WORKS WITH YOUR CURRENT E-MAIL ADDRESS. PocketMail lets you use
your current e-mail address or a personalized your_name
address that's included free with your service. You can easily manage
multiple accounts and receive copies of e-mail from other
services such as AOL as well as from most ISPs and corporate accounts.

I have the Pocket mail and it works fine. I got the Sharp model ($149)
which has more features than the JVC ($100 or less, shop around if this is
the one you want, have seen it in the 80's). It gives you an additional
email address and you can also pull in copies of your regular email address.
Check out the capacity before you buy. Had a few problems setting it up,
but they quickly disappeared when I read the directions.{:>) I also have it
set up in my home computer and it checks for mail on that email address each
time I receive regular mail.

Any questions, just ask. Had it operational for two months before they even
billed me. Do have to use a charge card for billing.

John,
That is the unit I have, just bought it too soon. The Sharp has worked fine
for me. It's features are better than the JVC, ie, address book, hence the
increased pricing. Will send you a message via mine so you can see what
they do.

Just add our .02

We've been using pocket mail for about 3 months. IOHO it's the
greatest thing since sliced bread. Used it in PA, VA, NY, NC, GA,
and SC. Used it on pay phones, home phones, motel phones, cell
phones (analog mode) and bought the Pocketlynx PC interface.
We have occasionally had trouble getting a clear enough cell signal
to use it and we have had monkey around to get some pay phones
to work right, but we've never NOT been able to get our e-mail.
We've tried cellular modems, digital wireless modems, laptop PC's,
etc, and this is the most inexpensive and versatile that we have
found. You might want to join the Pocketmail e-mail list. I think
you send and e-mail to mailto:pocketmail-subscribe

I just checked the Sharp Website at http://sharp.mobilon.com/telmail.asp
and they have a $50 rebate going for the next few months on the 512KB
TM-20 unit which holds about 100 emails at a time (is that enough?)

Here's how the rebate works:

1.Buy a Sharp TM-20 TelMail device.

2.Sign up for PocketMail mobile e-mail service via 1-800-390-5036 or the
PocketMail web site. Make sure you mention the promotion code
NNN6688-950342!

3.Receive a $50 credit towards PocketMail service (that's approximately 5
months FREE!) or a $50 credit card rebate issued 8 weeks after your first
PocketMail service charge.

That's it! No coupon to fill out, and no UPC to send in! This offer is valid from
May 15, 1999 until July 31, 1999, so act soon!
