James:
On your EL-II compressors, the kit you saw is not for your compressors. You can
go to a salvage yard and get them from GM large body vehicles that have the level
control (i. e. for the air shocks) for $10-$30. There is an early and a late
style. Models from the late 70's & the 80's used the early style. It has a
female recepticle in the head identical to what you have and that is what you want
if you have any choice. The later style, used into the 90's, is slightly altered
in that the electrical wiring comes out of the head through a grommet. If need
be, you can cut off your wiring plug and splice the two together.

Subject: GMC: support my local GMC shop

Hi,
Gene mentioned that we should support our local GMC shop. (recall Eric's went out
of business.) I think I did good in that regard, $2000 of labor and $1800 of parts
for my 'new' coach check up. I hope that will bring the lady to a better shape.

But I still have some questions need your help.
1. when I step on gas pedal hard, I will hear a 'burp' sould and the engine seems
to lost its driving power for a second. If I release the gas pedal and press it
slowly, every thing seems fine. It happened more often when engine is cold. When
it warmed up, the driving is more smooth. What might be the problem?
2. I saw the air compressor rebuild by Patric Flowers on the web. Does that kit
from Gateway also work for 78's Electro-Level II system? I was told that they
can not be rebuild and replacing part cost about $800. Is that true?

Paul,
I have two of the compressors off of Caddys. Seems like I have one of each,
early and late. What kind of pressure do these pumps produce? Was thinking
of using one to make into a portable air tank pump or just mount on under
the hood of my truck for immediate availability if needed.

Hi Roger

I have about a dozen of these pumps. The bad ones put out 90 PSI, the good ones up to 165 PSI,
average about 150 PSI.

Those with EL II systems and no pressure relief valves should note that these pumps will easily over
pressure the GMC air bags.

Roger:

Although I don't know positively, I'm guessing in the vicinity of 150 psi. I
routinely run my 4-air bag system @ 120 psi, and know it needs more to raise the
coach higher. I don't believe you'll have any problem with pressure.
