Electric fuel pumps (of the Onan variety)

Earlier this year, I had to replace the fuel pump on my 6K Onan.

Contrary to conventional wisdom, they run on gasoline, not money... but I
digress..

I was looking for some VW parts today and I ran across this in the JC
Whitney catalog (http://www.jcwhitney.com)

Part number 73EK9147B, page 23, catalog 62F priced at $34.99

This is a Facet pump, 2-4 PSI output. The picture is identical to the John
Deere fuel pump I bought for about $45 or so earlier this year, which is
identical to the pump that I didn't buy at Onan of Indiana for $93 and
change.

I have no reason to believe this isn't an ideal direct replacement for the
original Onan unit. It does not have a built in fuel filter. The original
had a sintered bronze filter under a screw on cap on the bottom (well --- at
least mine did.)

You could easily use a metal shell gas filter. You could put it ahead of the
fuel pump if you wanted to, they've got plenty of 'drawing' power.

Sure wish I had known about that last year!

Last summer I replaced my fuel pump with the one from Onan for $100+. Not
only was the new pump expensive but it was defective too. It got so hot
while running that I could not touch it! It boiled the gas and caused vapor
lock. Of course they replaced it under warranty but I still paid way too
much for the pump....

Do you have a part number for the John Deere pump that you are using?

I thought I had posted the part number at the time, but I've changed
notebooks and I don't have my full message set to look for it...

Anyway, get a fuel pump for a 105 (gas) combine.

That's what I did. The only bargain in an Onan part I ever bought.
I'll see if I can find the sales slip or call and get the PN and post it.
