We finally have our GMC back on the road. The Cadillac motor runs great.
Will be gentle with it till we get some more miles on it.
While I was driving it I thought about the electric fuel pump
discussions. I have a fuel pressure gauge mounted on the outside of the
coach. My regular pressure with the electric pump and the mechanical
pump is about 5 1/2 psi. When I shut off the electric pump the pressure
dropped to 2 psi. I have a bypass hose around the electric pump that I
keep closed. When I got home I opened the bypass hose and the fuel
pressure went back up to 5 psi with just the mechanical pump and the
electric pump bypassed.
This is just my observation but I feel that if you use an electric pump
use it all the time or run a bypass hose with a check valve.
Scott I will call you when we get back from Salt Fork and we can do some
one wheel burnouts with the coach.

Jim - some electric fuel pumps will allow fuel to flow freely through
them with the electric pump off. You didn't indicate what brand you
are using but yours, obviously, restricts the flow through it unless
it is running. Different brands are built that will allow free flow.
With the other types you wouldn't need a bypass hose, unless you get
a leak in the housing in which case the bypass would be handy.

Emery,
I am using the Carter fuel pump. This seems to be the most common one
used on the GMCs. What are the brands of pumps that will not restrict
the gas flow as this might be a better choice?
