For what It's worth, here's some ideas we've kicked around before on the
Onan fuel pump, they could easily apply to the engine as well...

Advance Auto Parts has the Purolator PRO42S for $29.95 which is a 2-4 psi
output. They also have a higher psi model. It was listed, but not in stock
at my local store. Anyway, this is the lowest price I've found so far.
This is the unit Rick Staples describes (a pulsating pump) that slows down
when the output pressure has been met. You didn't indicate that type of pump
you have now, but I assume it is a vane style pump that runs at constant
speed.
If you still have the original engine diaphragm pump and use the electric as
a 'booster' pump, I don't know if this design will flow gas if it were
switched off. Arch has researched this, and may have more info. He found a
Carter model that had 'through flow' when not powered.

Part number 73EK9147B, page 23, catalog 62F priced at $34.99 This is a Facet
pump, 2-4 PSI output. The picture is identical to the John Deere fuel pump I
bought for about $45 or so earlier this year
