Eldo's and Toro's

I found out that a local wrecker has a passion for Eldorado's. I went
out to see him today and he had six complete cars that had not been
stripped. He uses them for stock car racing.
I want to confirm if the trans and diff are the same. Knuckles? What
years might have the diff be a 3.21?, if at all? What years would have
the rear brake backing parts and calipers, and? that I would need to set
up the rear for rear disc brakes? Do I need the rotors from the car?
Switch pitch tranny?
He plans on stripping last years race car soon and I might be able to
get some parts cheap. He has confirmed that the Caddy engines were
different (425,500) than the Toros.
Another wrecker has a 76 Toro almost complete, does this have the 3.21
diff?, and/or switch pitch trans, and what is it worth $$? (what is
anything worth)
I would still like to get set up with rear disc brakes in a kit form as
Tom W. had once proposed.
Any comments are appreciated.

Regards, Gil

Hi Gil-

1966-67 have 3.21 and SP converters- All others have 2.73 or 3.07 ratio and
conventional converters.

ID- these are old cars, almost always drum front brakes,
no side marker lamps on rear quarters, headlamps hidden
behind doors (both Eldorado and Toronado)

Rear Disc Brakes are standard equipment on 1976-'78 Eldorado-

ID Rectangular lamps, discs are evident thru
holes in rear wheels if the hubcaps are off-

Special note- these later Eldorados have Air Compressors and 80-100 Amp
alternators as well and perhaps other features that may be of interest to
GMC owners.

Hope this helps-

I'm sure that you are familiar with Leigh Harrison, Woodbridge, Va., and his
kit of 6 wheel disc brakes. They work, and the quality is super. If you
don't know about Leigh, e-back and I'll look up his telephone. He is not on
the net.

Ballpark. How much does Leigh's 6 wheel system cost? Does he install or is it
a kit?

He sells the parts with good instructions. I've heard that a lot of people install
them themselves. I'll look up the prices tomorrow.

Thanks. I am an 80% mechanic. That is; 20% of my repairs require professional
assitance in repairing my repairs. I am sure I could handle it. I look forward to
hearing the price, though I think Alcoas and E rated tires figure prominantly in my
future. Perhapse more prominantly now that I am fairly sure my transmission leak will
not cost me six figures.

The way I figure it, that is the deposit on 70,000 Budweiser cans.
I have 6 so far.
