I'm in the middle of doing interior restoration on my '75 Palm Beach. It
has a duotherm furnace which looks original. Should I be considering
replacing this with a new one while I'm in the process or is it likely to
be Ok. It's been working Ok but the last time I turned it on I got a burnt
smell like maybe I had a mouse nest but I just turned it back off haven't
had time to investigate.

Anyway, what is the likely failure mode. Do they die gracefully or is it
catastrophic?

It's stuffed under the sink and is larger than the door. What's the trick
for removing it?

If it needs replaced what are the best choices. Camping world has a
suburban that is smaller or the catalytic guys would save space. Better yet
would be an under the frame mount.

This is not uncommon no matter what make you have. I think that it
may just be dust that is in the ducts that is drawn into the flame
and burnt. My does this after it hasn't been used for awhile but the
smell goes away quickly.
