Dual Fuel Pumps on the Howell EFI System

Good evening all,

Is anyone using dual fuel pumps on the Howell EFI system. If so what pumps are you using? Do you have to Manually select the tanks via the pumps?

I am using in tank fuel pumps with the Howell system. You wire them using a relay so that when you push the tank selector switch I
On the dash when you switch to main it uses the pump in the main tank. When you switch to Aux it uses the pump inn the Aux tank.

Mine is similar to Emery's, except I have external fuel pumps.

My pumps are Airtex E8094. They have a built-in check valve so external check valves are not required.

Be sure to use the Howell fuel pump power line through the relay to power the pumps. The ECM must control the power to the pumps so it can shut the
pumps down if the engine quits in case of an accident.

I'm using 3 pumps. 2 lift pumps that feed a surge tank, and 1 high pressure pump that feeds the TBI.
If not for TBI 2 pumps would be good.
This shows the dual lift pumps, High pressure pump is seperate

I put a in-tank fuel pump in each tank. I eliminated the fuel selector valve, and have it wired to control the pumps from the dash fuel selector
switch. Fuel is pumped out of the selected tank and through a check valve that keeps fuel from backing up into the non selected tank. Fuel hits a "Y"
connecting both tanks to common line running up the frame rail to the cross member in front of the front (Aux) tank. A "T" in the line splits off to a
fuel pressure regulator mounted on the frame rail in front of the front tank. When fuel in the system reaches 58psi, the regulator sends the fuel back
to the Aux tank via the front tank drain plug. The return line to the tank is protected by a piece of angle iron covering the line. I have fashioned a
tube that has a right angle to it to direct returning fuel along the bottom of the tank to avoid a geysering effect. Fuel at 58lbs then goes directly
to the FiTech throttle body. No return from the TB because excess fuel has been returned to the tank at the regulator. This also does not allow fuel
that has been heated by the engine to be returned to the tank. Been running it this way for 10yrs now with no issues. On a side note, IF you are
running with a FiTech FCC, or any other kind of accumulator, DO NOT mount that FCC/accumulator out in front of the radiator. A front end crash could
rupture the it and feed the resulting flames that are right in front of you. If you are using a FiTech the newer version of the FiTech FCC that can be
mounted along the frame rail is a better choice. JMHO
