Anyone know the electrical specs on this goodie. A/C just hums now. Research indicates bad run/start cap. Need to replace it, so A/C will sing the
song of cold air. Dometic Penguin II, 13.5.

Specs of motor capacitors are "usually" printed on the case.

Tom,
You can get the capacitor at most RV supply stores in the Phoenix area or you can find them online. Look at the spec plate to identify your needs.

Ought also to be available from abny of the net supply houses. Google by capacity and voltage and see what you get.

Temporary report.
Dometic part #3311883.000 is the hard start kit for Penguin models; 600xxx, 620xxx, 630xxx. The cap in the kit is 43 - 53 uF, 250 vac.
Size is 3 5/16 inch tall and 1 1/2 inch diameter, labeled CD60B. There are other items in the kit, namely a part called a relay. Actually not sure of
it's electrical function. It has only one wire in and one wire out, and the case is isolated from ground.
This did not 'cure' my A/C, but the humm increased in volume. This kit appears to be installed on the 'run' side of the run/start cap.
Awaiting delivery of run/start combination based on one installed in the Penguin II. It's labeled specs are 40/15 uF, 370 vac. Labeled as CBB65a.
This does not appear to be OEM.
I believe "CD60B and CBB65A" are physical package size for the component producers.

If you swap a long for a round, or vice versa, pick up a mount as well = a dollar or two.Hum with a new cap sounds like the motor is siezed or
shorted. Can you spin it? And what does your ohmmeter read when ever thing is disconnected? (Draw a picture)

And it's likely a time delay relay. But again you can likely chase maker/part number for it.

Final report: Short version, We have a working A/C. Wife very happy.
Details: Replaced the already installed hard start kit with new one. No joy.
Ordered Chinese made new cap, installed same. Joy, Joy, Joy. A/C again.

Installed a 45/5 mfd round capacitor in place of the failed 40/15 mfd capacitor. Cost of the run/start cap was $10 on Amazon, with two day shipping.
The new cap is slightly taller and slimmer than old cap. Easily fit into the space available. Used some shims to allow the original clamp to hold the
new cap steady.

Weather report for Tucson in April. Not much need for A/C. But, old Boy
Scout motto applies here. Be prepared. Happy wife is happy life. Good job.
Remember that the Dometic roof air has a 2 minute delay relay before
compressor starts. Fan runs when you switch it on, then, the looooong 2
minute wait, then, all hell breaks loose on the roof. Finally, Ahhhh, cool
air.. Compressor does quiet down some with continued use, but can never be
described as silent. Your idea of silent is someone else's idea of either
white noise or infernal racket.

If you replaced a 40/15 capacitor with a 40/5 your fan motor may suffer. The larger 45 mfd is fine for the compressor but the 5 mfd for the fan is a
bit on the short side . If it were me I would add a 10 mfd capacitor in parallel with the 5 or disconnect the 5 mfd wire and place a 15 mfd from
this wire and connect the other wire to the common. If you don't your fan motor will likely over heat when it is running after awhile.

Not so sure you won't need A/C in Tucson Jim. Had 89 in Phoenix in January, close to the same temps usually. Hal

Looking forward to some of that. 31° here this morning. High of kind of 48
or 49 today. Ready for some warmer climate. Arches in April looks pretty
good to me.
