I've had various trailers with electric brakes including a car dolly and
have been pleased with the results. I've used the same pendulum-type
controller for 17 years on four vehicles and now on the GMC and it works
well. I must say, I've never used surge brakes but have heard of
disadvantages such as backing applying the brakes as well as rough terrain.
