The hole in the dipstick is a "mod" to emulate the original dipstick which
had a breather hole molded into the rubber - no filters on the original
dipstick.

Generally, I would agree but my experience was differant (Again-VBG)

After having Sirum's install the front mounted dip stick my tranny
belched 19 qts of fluid out of the vent and all over my mufflers . While
chatting with Chuck Stoddard of Caspro, he suggested I drill a couple of
small holes in the end of the tube on the underside (to keep out rain)

I haven't used a drop of oil since then and that was 3 years and 40k
miles ago!
