Dick, Origanlly both channels were covered with a rubber block
formed to fit,at least on my 75.Over the years they have contracted ,and in
my case fallen out,leaving as you say a good place to catch everything. My
solution ? Fill the void with expandable foam sealer ,such as Great
Stuff,which claims to be Water tite.After having done that I thougt that I
should have simply pop riveted a sheet metal cover. By the way
gang , I took almost a quarter of a Shop Vac worth of road sand out the the
Pass.side channel alone!! Guess what stayed wet for a looooong time after
running in the rain? Dry rot up the step behind dinnette,and water damage
to the wall area .After R&R the "SMELL"was reduced.Never would have found
it had I not replaced carpet.Run back from MB in the rain,dry!!!!
