I know where you're coming from. I love hearing about these kinds of
deals. Whoever gets there first with cash usually wins. I bought a '70
Chevelle with no rust & 59,000 miles for $1,200 because nobody believed
it was the deal as advertised or bothered to show up to look at it. I
also traded a T-400 trans for the finest example of a '69 El Camino in
San Diego. Another one of those "deals" was when a friend and I bought a
tri-wall junk at the Navy resale yard. The junk was just on the top.
For a $15 bid we got about 10 Snap-on 3/8 socket sets with more ratchets
than we'll ever use in a lifetime. There was also a set of 5 Motorolla
HT 600 hand-helds with lapel mikes in there with a gang charger.
But the BEST deal was a '57 Chevy Nomad auctioned off at one of those
DEA/ATF public auctions. This car was a 12 year old Howard Hill frame
off restoration with an aluminum bowtie block and aluminum phase 6 bowtie
heads topped off with a set of twin banks turbo chargers, built T400
trans, 12 bolt-posi rear and on and on.......$7,000. (We found some
interesting hidden compartments on that one.)
