Day / Night Shade Cleaning

At the Tucson and Amana rallies the question was raised on how to clean your day/night shades.
One gentleman indicated that he had washed his in his bathtub with mild soap. We actually tried this a few days ago and it does work. Use a soft brush and rinse with shower head.
Make sure you lay them flat to dry and keep all the pleats in alignment while air drying.
The best way to clean them in-place is to vacuum them with a soft brush attachment. This works extremely well.

Gary,
I bought my shades from the Guskes back in 1999. They are still in good shape except for a few water (kind of rust looking) stains on the large shade
in the rear and the shade in the entrance door. Do you think "mild soap" would remove those stains?

By the way it is -14F here now and the poor GMC is sitting out in that cold covered with snow. I won't be cleaning the shades anytime soon.

Chances are some stains will not be removed with mild soap.
The quality of the fabrics in the day /night shades are manufactured for longevity as noted by the condition of your 20 yr old shades. The shades in our “Guske” coach are probably just as old and are still in very good condition.
I would match the cleaner with the stain and maybe do a test spot in an area that doesn’t show.
