Hello all,

Has anyone been successful in painting the dash while in place? What has been found to be a great quality dash (plastic) Paint?

Thanks so much as always,
Tom

Tom:

I’ve used the SEM system, and have had great results.

https://www.semproducts.com

Follow the instructions precisely with the Sand Free and Adhesion Promoter and you’ll get great results.

I painted my dash in place with it.

I’ve even done a headrest.

(Tip…. that I have done on subsequent projects ….. put K-Y Jelly on places you don’t want to paint. Like the window gaskets. You can wash it off later)

That tube, and the lipstick in my toolbox (for kissing parts) always starts grins and discussions.

I have repainted the dash & side panels of our 77, and painted (with a color change) the dash & side panels on the Stretch. In both cases used SEM
brand "Saddle Tan" spray cans. That color is an almost perfect match for the OEM color on the Eleganza. Used about 3 cans each for two coats on each
one, if I remember correctly. Wiped everything down with acetone before masking. As with lots of painting jobs, masking is the most time consuming
and tedious part of the job. I took the cover off the instrument panel and painted it separately, that also made it easier to mask the streetside
windshield. Took off the OEM overlay from the instrument panel, which allows easier masking of the instruments & "doughnut". Also removed the seats
for access to the side panels.

Use a really good mask, as it gets pretty foggy in that confined space! We have been very pleased with the results. JWID JohnS

Let’s say you want to mark where to put a hole on a panel.

Put a little lipstick on it, put the panel in place, and it will leave a neat mark right where you need to drill.

I’ve used the same technique marking outlets in drywall.

Wow! Thank Guys. It make me very happy to find the dash can be painted in place. I was afraid to remove the plastic dash components due to their age
and fragility.

Thanks again for all the great advise!

You guys have a wonderful evening and take care,
Tom
