JUst returned home from the Western States Rally in New Mexico. I must
admit that it was the best one I have ever attended. Mr. "C" did a
fantastic job and I am sure that everybody in attendance will agree to
that. The youngster (15 years old) that did the fiddle playing I am
certain we will hear a lot about her in the future. I do not now how
many in attendance had a chance to talk with her or her mother but she
does not read a note of music and plays everything by ear. He mother
says that she hears the song once and maybe twice and duplicates it
right down to a mistake if it has been recorded. I had the opportunity
to talk with her that evening during one of their breaks. Her thumb and
a couple of her fingers were well worn to the blood level. I hope
everyone appreciated here efforts as much as I did. Now for some news.
Our GMC made it home without a hitch. Hanna (copilot) has not figured
out the mileage home. But going and we used roof air, (no dash air
until Emery took care of that for us at the fair grounds. Thanks again
Emery) and we toed the Aspire, and we averaged 10 mpg, or 116 gallons
of gas for 1160 miles.

As soon as we got home I crawled beneath the GMC and dumped the oil and
made a quick assessment of the under side of the GMC. As Mr. "C"
pointed out the tail pipe was not hooked up and I had to wire it to the
frame to ensure it got home with us. Boy was it noisy in the cab.
Additionally I saw observed a torn CV boot on the drivers side, outside
one. I was getting ready to pull the hub and knuckle to do the grease
job. I never did a CV joint. Is it hard to do or should I buy the axle
with all the stuff on it? Is it available. I see in the cross
reference for the boots are at NAPA.

Once again can a limited and I mean limited person like me do this job.
Or should I try to just get the whole axle. Thanks in advance and
Blessings to all of you. Chuck

PS What would cause one of these things to tear like that?

Chuck... Thanks for the nice words. I don't know much about the CV joint
as mine was bad for some time. I did have Bob Lamy to help me when he
found out it had cracked and was very dry. It took him some time and he
did both, rotating the spider gear from one side to the other. I know he
used some special tooks and worked hard. But since he knew what he was
doing, it went real fast. I don't think I know enough to do it myself, and
was real pleased with the job he did.
Hope that helps.
