Curious parts question.....

You're missing a couple of things. The driveline is pretty much lifted out of a Toronado of the same vintage. Plenty of aftermarket parts for
everything in it but the axles. The axles, like many of the body parts and frame are motorhome specific. The suppliers of these usually stock a few
of the common parts as well, at the same or close to AutoZone prices. They will tell you on some parts the shipping exceeds the part cost, get it
down the street if you can.
Currently 'parts coaches' are in short supply because many owners have an inflated idea of their value. You have to wait till they're hauled to the
junkyard to get what you need.
As far as I know, every part of the GMC can be had from suppliers.

I do not know how to answer your question as I find it completely opposite. I don't think there is a commercial market for parting out coach's as
there are so many people willing to assist each other through the GMC community through goodwill, a commercial place cannot make money on the parts.
if you add shipping to something, then it really gets out to a price range many will not pay, because they can find it locally.

It's actually not about making money, yes there will always be overhead if you have a store and thats not really the scope of the question..... its
about the people who for one reason or another cannot possibly afford "new and shinny", dont want "new and shiny as good used is good enough" or are
looking to upgrade for a reasonable price by adding a bit of arm power etc to make the part serviceable again. As an example....who sells or has for
sale rear disc brake caliper mounting brackets [new or used]? Someone like myself can make them but what about the people who dont mind taking some
used ones, clean them up, install them and sourcing the needed parts locally or through a supplier? You cant tell me that their are not any on coaches
or parts sitting around out there in need of a new life.

Or how about NOS rear bags, torsion bars, fuel tanks, bumpers, hubs etc....GM must of had hundreds of these sitting on shelves in
warehouses....although i know the likes of Sirium has some but you cant tell me that they bought every last set....now if you want to upgrade that is
awesome and it might even be better but....

The point to my question was there must be NOS or good used out there but were? Who is hoarding this stuff? When i restored cars we went to swap meets
etc where there was acres of parts vendors selling new and used stuff ....i dont see that here with these coaches but yet they are just as popular.
It's not like these things are 1930 Bugatti's and they one made one....although limited, they were mass produced.

It's not about the people either, this is a great community, just like any other Club or Community with a common interest.

Maybe im looking at this totally wrong ......

There are people out there with the parts, and maybe they are "hording them?".... I personally have never seen used parts availability an issue.
I have quite a few parts on my coach that have come from all sorts of great people, and all over different parts of the country over the years. Some
super GMC folks over the last 9-10 years have helped keep my GMC I had originally bought for $500 on the road. There was a few summers I barely had a
budget to buy gas for the coach, must less a new part.

the forum has the "swap meet". GMCMI has a swap meet at their conventions. They also usually have a board up, where people have listed parts.
Most times at our local club gatherings, someone has a box of parts sitting there on a picnic table. and BDUB has his site:

No question, there are some of the most giving people on the planet in this and other groups associated with these coaches. I, like i presume most,
have asked and received information etc from some and hope i can repay the favor when the time comes....

I know all those sites and watch them regularly to which some havent had anything posted since 2017....

Maybe im not looking in all the right places or at the right times.....

As i said, it was just a question to raise a query and maybe shake a couple apples from the tree that have been in the back 40 for too long.

Rich,
I just put newer, nicer bumpers on my ’73 courtesy of Tom Whitton in Kentucky. (Thanks again Tom.) I had posted in the GMCMI “Wanted” section for most of a year before Tom noticed it and emailed. The first two people, roughly 3 months apart, who contacted me were scammers who had relatively convincing stories. I dodged those bullets. There are not that many points of contact with the GMC Motorhome community and they are not that hard to find. A year-long search for good bumpers should have taken about 3 weeks, or so I thought, at first.

I just don’t see the well of parts or parts coaches that you seem to feel is out there. If so, there would be advertisements and addresses and listings in every GMC publication online and otherwise. Yet, there are always listings of GMC parts suppliers online and print, along with appropriate appeals to support them because they are the lifeblood of a fading marque. But used parts, not so much. I’ve always known I could get newly chromed bumpers from the Jim’s or Jeff and others. But I wanted cheaper, good used is good enough, as you say. Since none of the regular known GMC suppliers offered used bumpers, I have just assumed that the “likely not recoverable” coaches they had on their back lots were kept to solve otherwise unsolvable problems for their in-patient customers. I am perfectly comfortable with that.

It seems to me that the old chain metaphor is at work here. Those of us who need “good enough” parts pull the chain and nothing’s on the other end of it. I also have a bunch of parts laying around but think it’s too much time, trouble and work to list them. Like, why push on a chain? It’s easy and fast to see a wanted request and respond, it’s a lot harder to offer up a blind listing and hope someone needs it. I don’t do facebook so that’s a loss to me, but the new forum has a parts thread that may just become a thing, if we support it. That’s where my money is to solve this problem. JWIT

Rich,

Yes, Doug did hit the nail squarely.

Another thing you have to realize is that there were fewer than 13K of these coaches produced and there are still 8K+ on the road. Many owners now
have more than one and of those, few of the second coaches are road worthy or ever will be again. As an example, a friend acquired a coach at salvage
cost and for so many reasons, it is in my back yard. A number of parts have been sold, and the buyer got what he needed. Then my coach took a
critical hit and again I have collected some parts, but your real answer was covered by Doug....
There just aren't many out there. There is not much collector value.

Near and dear to you, a person known to me (no way a friend) had a nose and wing for a Dodge Super Bird.... The two parts were not in great
condition, but he sold them for more than I paid for my coach. The buyer was happy.

So, keep you eye on the web and an eye to the ground and you may find what you need/want.

Matt

Another reason we sdon't see a lot of RVs in junkyards, the modern yards require you remove or open the gas tanks, air conditioners, iceboxes, propane
tanks, etc.
It's simpler to do a 'Matt' and stuff the donor out back until the worthwhile stuff is taken off or sold.

Just for the helluvit, the Dodge was called a Daytona, and the Plymouth was called the Superbird. And I believe the nose and wing were a bit
different on each.
