Cruise Control

Who can tell me, or tell me where to find a troubleshooting guide to the
GMC cruise control? I've checked voltages; the engage button sends
momentary voltage to the transducer (although it's only a couple of
volts), there is 12v at the "light" plug, brake disengage switch is
working...I've taken the transducer apart and it looks okay
inside-nothing grossly wrong. Still, no vacuum to the power unit.
Could it be the engage switch? This is on a 77 Palm Beach. Any ideas?

Ray, the shop manual has a pretty good section on the CC transducer.
Maybe someone can shoot you a picture of those couple of pages.

Tried pulling up on you brake pedal slightly to see if it engages??? Ask Jim

When I first purchased my '73 I could not get the
cruise control to work consistently. - It was my
mistake - I was not aware that the cruise control is
set by pushing the button only half way in and in fact
reset when you push the button all the way in.

Your message said "the engage button sends momentary
voltage" - could you be making the same mistake as I -
pushing the button all the way in to set - not the
half-way that is required.

HMMMMMM. ?????

Ray,

There is a section on troubleshooting cruise control in the factory service
manuals. (I know because last summer I nearly wore out the page!)

I finally got the factory system to work. Had to replace the transducer
twice (the first rebuilt unit was also faulty) and also a switch.
