Gene,
What's happening here is the assembler is moving the crank back and
forth in the bearing saddles ensuring that the torque readings are not
taken while the bearing edges are against the filet radius of the rod
journal on the crank. This is pretty standard stuff. This is also the
very reason why quality engine rebuilders cut a modest chamfer the
outboard edges of all the rod bearings. Just more insurance.
