Hi to the GMCnet.
Well here goes Arch--
I don't know anything about this motorhome, have had it about 18 months.

I purchased a motor oil dip tube from one of our GMC supplier and it did
not fit into the block. The OD was to big (the hole in the block is
only 5/16 of an inch).
- - The OD of the "new" tube is 3/8 of an inch and 5 5/32 inches long.
- - The OD of "old" tube that was in the block, was 5/16 of an inch and
15/16 inch long that inserts into the block.
With that said--
I called the supplier and stated that he had sent me the wrong part the
OD was to big. He stated that someone must have changed out the motor in
my 73 Canyonlands because the tube he sent is the right oil dip tub for
all 455s. the same size (3/8 ins.) the total length of the tube.
- - I know it is an old's engine because I have purchased a water pump
for a 455 and it fit.
- - I purchased other items for the 455 that also fit --
I think the tube that was sent to me was for the transmission. My gut
tells me if it would fit into the engine block it would be to long and a
rod would hit it (I could be wrong but hope not). The new tube would go
into the motor is 5-5/32s of inch long. That would be approximately 3 to
4 inches that would be on the inside of the motor.

I wonder if anyone has an answer--
If I have too I will cut and swedge, weld etc. the end from the old tube
onto the end of the new tube.
If the engine was changed I wonder what the ---- it is? 455 car, 425
car, 403 motorhome?????
Thanks in advance for your much needed help,
Have a good one, Lyle

snip>I changed my dip tube, ordered tube from the Old's dealership for a
1973 Toronado...it worked fine. I'll look up the OEM number from the receipt
if you want me to. BTW it was in no way 3/8" diameter. "Rick"
Rick: It would be very much appreciated, I sure hope your right on the OD
size. This would make me more at ease knowing that the motor is a 455 and
not something else. I paid $24.00 for this new tube, and the cost of the
mechanic to take off the exhaust manifold to R & R it. Thanks for you help,
have a good one Lyle.
