Corpus Christi Camping

Kathy and I are tentatively planning a trip to Corpus Christi in mid to late January and We are looking for suggestions on camping locations. We are
pretty much set up for dry camping and have a kind of low budget mindset (okay, we're CHEAP) so we wouldn't mind camping on the beach (free) or at a
national seashore campground.

I am a bit concerned about the beach camping, not knowing how well packed the sand road is, I do drive in dirt quite a bit, going to the sand dunes,
etc, but that is normally nice and dry and even so, traction can be iffy. We do have the 4WD Tracker to pull/push if needed, but would rather not
have to do that.

Any suggestions or experiences to share?

Explore Port Aransas area. Much more pleasant than Corpus. You can branch
out from there. Sand is hard as asphalt. Watch the tide. Don't miss the
Lady Lex.

Padre Island national Seashore has a campground by the shore. If you are former military check to see if you qualify to use camping facilities at Corpus Christi Naval Air Station. I am sure there are a number of other camp grounds in the area.

Hi Carl. I’m with Billy on the port Aransas recommendation. But I don’t know what they offer for free dry camping. But about 15 miles south of
Corpus is the Padre island National seashore area. They have numerous dry-camping areas. A yearly pass is $45. They don’t accept reservations, it is

We DO have the Golden Age lifetime pass. Do they accept that there? Being a NPS site, I would think they would.

We are not averse to paying for camping at the state park or national park type campground, but would rather not spend $50.00/night for a place to
park and sleep.
