I ever
> made on my GMC. Called an old friend who repairs welders and battery
chargers for advice. When I described it, he said something to the
effect of "That's a good, safe, reliable unit." He suggested checking
the capacitors, which turned out to be the problem: one was shorted.
(Visible swelling of the can made it easy to spot.) As an emergency
repair, I just cut out the shorted one, which restored operation. Then
I went off to my local surplus electronics supply store, where I
purchased 3 (IIRC) motor start
