I've been reading the messages here for a few weeks and am confused on a few
points. Can someone help? I have never owned a MH but am a travel trailer
experienced RVer. I am being given a GMC MH and am looking for a manual
plus manufacturing infor. The data I've been given is as follows. 1978
GMC, Class A with a P-30 truck Chassis with rear wheel drive, 454 Chevy
engine, 30 foot, 4 wheel disc brakes, Hydrovaded powered, Tranny rebuilt at
70K, has 96K on it.

Question: is this a true GMC coach or a faux model? I've checked the VIN
number and it doesn't gibe with the GMC coding for VIN numbers.

Thinks I'm lost. Don't know what to add but sure could use some answers.
It's a piece of art waiting to be loved but need to know how to love it!
LOL

Thanks
Pat

As you will probably hear many times - you do not have a GMC motorhome. You
have an SOB (some other brand). Many MH manufacturers - Midas etc. used a GMC
truck chasis to build there body work on. The GMC motorhome was a purpose based
frame designed for a coach type motorhome or transport. Using front wheel drive
and a dual bogie rear wheel arrangement they were able to build a low to the
ground body with large interior space.

Pat;
The motorhome that you have been given is not the GMC motorhome we of this Net
so lovingly write about. Distinguishing features are front wheel drive (ours)
versus rear wheel drive (yours), Olds engine (ours) versus Chevy engine (yours),
two wheel (standard) disc brakes (ours) versus four wheel disc brakes (yours),
unique chases (ours) versus P-30 chasis (yours), 23' or 26' (ours) versus 30"
(yours), and "hydrovaded power" which is not a part of my experience.

If you are ready for a REAL love affair, you are going to have to sell yours and
find the REAL thing.

What you've got is a Class A motorhome built on a Chevy P30 truck
chassis. It is not a GMC Motorhome. Almost all gasoline Class A's are on
Chevy P30's with 454ci engines or Ford 460ci engines.

However, a gift horse should be enjoyed as if it were a Thoroughbred
Derby winner!
