>Ladies and Gentlemen,
>What happens when Dave says "What the H...,no one seems to understand
>or
>care that I have spent the time, effort, and personal funds to keep the
>Registery going.I guess I'll just give it up!"
Thanks to my cheerleaders for their support, but the above isn't going to
happen. I am unable to contribute much in the way of technical advice or
how to fix things and the only engineering sense I have was absorbed by
my association with the fine engineers (eletrical and mechanical) who
worked for me over my years at IBM.
I feel the Registry is a positive element in the GMC world, perhaps it
even adds a little cachet, who knows. And except for two individuals in
California, everyone has been incredibly helpful in not only sharing
their data with the Registry but have often gone way out of their way to
collect new GMCs for the Registry.
It does consume more time than I ever imagined, which until I returned to
the work force last November was not a problem. And it is still not a
problem as I enjoy hearing from GMC owners and wannabe owners and often
from past owners who wonder where the old girl has gone? The Registry may
have more value in 10-20 years from now (is that positive thinking, or
what?) when the history may be more interesting and more important to an
owner.
In any event, the Registry is still alive and well and I will replace the
old laptop on an urgent basis. I have shown my banker, AKA, Janet, some
of your letters and eMail notes and she is coming around as far as
letting go her death grip on the credit card. I was close to buying a
used laptop from one of our GMC owners when I negotiated too hard and he
decided to upgrade and keep his instead of; you guessed it! Taking on new
debt himself.
Anyway, long story short or is it too late?; I am not throwing in the
towel and I don't feel anyone is obligated to financially support the
Registry (or me) but I am overwhelmed that several GMC owners have been
moved to help in the generous way they have. I have enough money to buy a
CD Burner which was the recommended way to go and I will surely do that
plus I will find an inexpensive laptop before our February Rally
(2/9-2/12 if anyone wants to join us) and Mike Finnicum will oversee the
transferring of the Registry to the new computer.
Thanks to you all for reading this epistle.
