Tom,
I saw Chucks' data and I think it is very revealing. I've had the 1 1/16"
cylinders on the back for several years. I put carbon metallic pads on the
front a couple of years ago but as you know when I purchased your Hydro
Boost system, I wasn't happy with the braking. Before changing to the Hydro
Boost I wanted to try the 80 mm calipers. I had them installed and used the
metallic pads that were on the old calipers. The brakes are so much better
that I feel no need to install the Hydro Boost. Chucks data reinforce that
feel with its 33% increase in front braking force. Just a small improvement
in the front tandem would probably put F/R ratio back very close to the
48/52 original which is probably the optimum for all the varying conditions.
If John doesn't want to get in the business maybe he can suggest alternate
ways for us to get the shoes. TIA.

Arch, Sounds like you need an adjustable proportioning valve for your
brakes. Set the f/r brakes the way you like. Alas, I don't know if they are
available or not.

Arch,
Have you got the 80 mm calipers on the front? Mine, with 80 mm, don't
actually lock but leave a powdered rubber trail on bare concrete on a 5 mph
panic stop. I've heard that the Hydro Boost system is the next level
stronger but if yours won't lock on gravel with 80's and cm pads there must
be something else not up to speed. JMO

Still brainstorming, how about a new master cylinder? Retry on the
bleeding. Way out - maybe one of the new hoses you installed with the 80 mm
calipers is defective and is expanding. I guess the best solution would be
to get Jim Anstett to drive it or talk him into letting you try his coach to
see if they are different. I'll bet he'll be at Oregon.

I have got the 80MM up front with cm pads. New lines, new combi
valve and new handicapped booster. Still no luck.
