Has anyone had experience with spray coating the Aluminum wheels after
polishing with Chip Guard, or any other clear coating?

As a personal opinion ( which we all have) I wouldn't clear coat my
Alcoa's. The chance of corrosion starting under the coating and the
problems of removing a clear coating is a real pain. Been there and
done that on other aluminum wheels. The 2 or 3 times a year that I
detail my wheels is a small investment.

Since I have my new Alcoa's on order I talked to my powder coating company
(they have done some black stuff on my Harley with great results). They said
they won't do clear powder coat on wheels anymore. Too tuff to get them even
and stay looking good. He said just leave them as is and polish them by
hand and I'd be happier. I have been thinking I may spray paint the BACKSIDE
of the wheel to stop corrosion though. Maybe a good clear or even light gray
enamel... Any thoughts here???

Nate,
No paint just a coat of Wax on the back. It's easier to clean the bare
metal than to clean the paint off to get at any corrosion.

Hi Nate,

FWIW, my '96 GMC Jimmy has alloy wheels with the spoke sides (and I assume
backs) painted with a light gray. I had to look to see the paint. I'd say do it.

I'm surprised that Alcoa doesn't already paint them!
